DEBRIEFING FORM

‘Gender and race biases in language production’

Thank you for your participation in this research study. For this study, it was important that we withheld information about certain aspects of the experiment. Now that your participation is completed, we will fully disclose the information to you, why it was important, answer any of your questions, and provide you with the opportunity to make a decision on whether you would like to have your data included in this study.

What you should know about this study
Our study was investigating whether speaking in a second language reduces the gender and race bias in language production. The order of names in the sentences were used to measure whether there was a preference for putting the figure closest to your own social group first when describing the event. Our hypothesis was that there would be a stronger preference for placing your own social group first when speaking your native language. For this reason, it was necessary that participants were not aware that their biases were being recorded, as it would influence their responses.

Right to withdraw data
You may choose to withdraw the data you provided prior to debriefing, without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
